Mr Ede Asenoguan has added his voice in condemning the incessant kidnap of lawyers and citizens in Edo State, especially along the Benin-Auchi expressway. The latest incident occurred in the early hours of yesterday, the 2nd day of February, 2022 when the audacious kidnappers struck and kidnapped 3 lawyers of the NBA Warri branch and their driver.
Mr Ede stated as follows:
“Kidnapping has almost become a part of our economic indices in Nigeria especially in Edo State to the extent that citizens and professionals can no longer go about their daily duties without looking above their shoulders.
Without prejudice to the importance of every single citizen of Nigeria, lawyers should be the least victims of kidnap as they are the only professionals who fight to uphold the fundamental and constitutional presumption of innocence in favour of accused persons. Ours is a vocation that determines people’s liberties and rights, it is very despicable and unfortunate that we have been the prime target of these madcap and ruthless kidnappers.
It is reported that the lawyers and their driver whose names are FRED ABURU, ESQ., ISRAEL UNURIERUME, ESQ., EDA GBEJULE, ESQ. AND KOME ESIKE.
(The Driver) were on their way from Warri to Sabo-gidda Ora High Court when they were attacked at the Ehor axis of the expressway. Does it mean that people cannot go about their legitimate businesses without the fear of kidnap?
It is on this note that I make a passionate call on the security authorities domiciled within Edo State to move switfly in rescuing the affected lawyers and their driver. This is to reduce the chances of being harmed by their brutish captors.
In the long run, it is high time the security architecture within the state came up with tactful and effective parameters towards cubbing this ugly trend before we all get consumed by its fury.
I want to equally use this medium to assure the Warri Bar that we will not rest on our oars in ensuring that her beloved members are released unharmed”
Signed:
Ede Asenoguan,Esq (Past Chairman, NBA Benin Branch)
